Zambezi River
On Monday evening, we went for a lovely cruise on the Zambezi river, just above
Victoria Falls.
The collection of boats which were to be our home for the next few hours.
We did see some hippopotamuses, but they popped out of the water for such a short time, it
was very difficult to capture them on camera. It did provide for an excellent opportunity
to improve my ripple photography, however.
As sunset nears, this enormous river starts to look very placid.
The free bar on board was very popular.
Looking away from the sun, the spray above Victoria Falls is just visible in the centre of
the picture.
As darkness fell, the star spotters came out of the woodwork - I saw the Southern Cross
for the first time, and - very strange - the Plough upside-down! For some reason which I
didn't grasp, our pilot had enormous difficulty in returning us to the shore, and we began
to wonder if we would see the dawn as well, but in almost pitch darkness we were finally
returned to terra firma.
