From the A595 near Fox and Goose Cottages, looking up to White Hall Knott,
behind which lies White Combe.
Ascending the easy path, looking along the Whicham Valley to the sea.
George takes a breather under the shade of some bracken. It was surprisingly
warm for only nine o'clock in the morning.
From the summit of White Combe, looking to Stoupdale Head
...and to the parent fell, Black Combe, across the combe itself, early in the
morning looking very well lit rather than its more typical shadowy darkness.
Looking towards the Coniston Fells
Across the Duddon estuary to the Furness peninsula and
Walney Island
The Scafells
We were buzzed by three aircraft, which rose towards us from the direction of
Sellafield.
We gradually descend from the highest point towards the valley of Whitecombe
Beck
Passing Whicham Mill, a last look back at White Hall Knott and Gray Crags before
we reach the road.
