Yorkshire Dales Holiday:
Yorkshire Steam

19 July 2005 - Embsay and Bolton Abbey Railway

Lucy and Henry wait at Bolton Abbey station for our train back to our starting point, Embsay

The award-winning Bolton Abbey station

Our locomotive, having run round the train, reverses up to the carriages

This was our second time on the Embsay and Bolton Abbey Railway, but the first with a steam train

Henry and Lucy getting a bit of fresh air while Stephen watches the locomotive running round

Back at Embsay, Lucy and Henry ponder whether to do as they are told and to cross the line, although they have no need to do so.

21 July 2005 - Flying Scotsman to Scarborough

Under the impressive roof of York railway station, Flying Scotsman pulls in to platform five, where her many passengers have been patiently waiting, and watched by interested onlookers on the GNER Kingdom of Fife

Our trip today was a non-stop run to Scarborough, which was a delightful journey. We had almost three hours there before a repeat trip back to York. The coaching stock was mixed, but we were fortunate to get a lovely first class corridor carriage, and on the way back had the compartment to ourselves. A good carriage really does make the difference to any journey by railway.
