Yorkshire Canals 2001 (Page 4)
Wednesday 10 October - On the move at last?
On Wednesday morning we got up after a dry night full of hope.
Stephen has breakfast as we wait for the lock-keeper to meet us. Although the marker board
was still showing red, he told us to wait an hour and then to proceed, taking great care.
Lucy holding our boat against the lock side while we await another boat which had also
been waiting for the levels to fall and which had decided to travel with us.
The river had fallen another 25cm or so overnight, and was now much calmer. However, when
we came out of the lock into the river channel, the force of the current was quite
powerful, and required great care and anticipation.
