Whoap and Lank Rigg
30 December 2014
A pleasant winter's day provided an opportunity to pick up another
couple of Wainwright summits from the north-west of the district, and an
isolated geocache.
George and Lottie spy out of the route. Ahead is Lank Rigg, but our
route will curve round to the left and onto Whoap (far left of picture)
before crossing the col onto Lank Rigg.
On Whoap in geocaching mode
Looking back down the valley of Whoap Beck
And in the other direction to the higher fells beyond Ennerdale Water
with Grasmoor behind them.
On Whoap
Crossing from Whoap to Lank Rigg, looking down Whoap Beck
On one of the summits of Lank Rigg
And on the southern summit of Lank Rigg
Heading back into the valley of Whoap Beck
The Moon over Whoap
Lottie trying to summon up the courage to cross the beck
Not the most thrilling of scenery underfoot but good weather and good distant
views made it a pleasant walk.
Total distance 9.6 km and 500 metres of ascent in 3 hours 23 mins (including the
geocaching diversion)
