Stickle Pike

25 April 2013

The drive to the Lake District had gone very smoothly until the last few miles when I reached the closed A595. An attempt to go around via Woodland was unfortunately an option taken by too many others and there was near gridlock on the narrow lanes. But after dinner I decided to go out for a stretch of legs before dark, and drove up to Kiln Bank Cross from where it is a short walk up Stickle Pike.

The view north as I start to gain a little height

Passing Stickle Tarn

The fells of upper Eskdale in the distance

Looking across the Duddon Valley to the rays of the setting sun

And south to Black Combe with its head just lost in the clouds

Down the Duddon estuary to the sea

Caw

Harter Fell on the left and Caw on the right

I think that's Seat How with the flat top; not sure what the fell is to its right
